EBF Sonnet

So soon to wake after a night time rest?
Soft cries alert my ears that you must feed.
I pull you once again onto my breast.
I answer every want and every need.

With forlorn eyes I gaze upon your face.
Your baby blues, two pools of water, still.
To care for you I need a sense of grace.
To breastfeed requires an iron will.

A mother’s milk supply is on demand.
Her baby takes all that her body gives.
At beck and call; “Your wish is my command!”
On this sole sustenance her nursling lives.

I sacrifice my peace of mind and rest;
For in my heart I know that breast is best.

Neo-words

Focus focus discipline.
I can’t I can’t I can’t win.
Lose it, lost it, once again.
Seek it, sought it, find the pin.

Laser, loser, precision.
Dueling needles, under skin.
Dig it, dig it, carve it in.
Kick it, kick it, in the shin.

Focus focus, self-control.
Hocus pocus, rig’marole.
One track mind, my mental goal.
No fault for a lack of soul.

Darling, darling, darling dear.
Keep me, keep me, keep me near.
Show me the darkness you fear.
Take me with, don’t leave me here.

Call me gorgeous, precious sphere.
Shed a crystalline blue tear.
Underground, bones rotting here.
Living hell, my darling dear.

Darkness, darkness, in the hole.
Hill of beans upon the fool.
Working with the crudest tool.
Found my mind and lost my cool.

She Leads Me Home

I followed my anger out into the woods.
I shrugged off Its stronger offenses.
I found a trail, I searched for the Good,
Unknowing, let down my defenses.

Into my garden and over my wall,
The remnants of shadowy deeds.
Creeping under the mockingbird's call,
Frantically pulling at weeds.

At dusk, I buried her under a tree,
And left a small cross at Her head.
At dawn, I drank, as I was in grief,
Remem’bring She never was dead.

Good-Bye Coffee, Yeah Right

Good-bye coffee.
Good-bye cream.
Good-bye old habits and pipe dreams.
Good-bye heartache.
Good-bye losses.
Good-bye crutches and sour sauces.
Good-bye Eddie
Good-bye Dee.
I surrender; I am free.

You Pitch, I Catch Your Grief

You built this wall in the space between us,
You brought it forth from your own mind and erected it in the center of our reality.
You gave it a persona and a hair cut.
You named her Love and bought her a one-way ticket,
But you were unaware that you were courting Fear.
None the wiser that you were kissing Emptiness.
You necked Regret.
You bedded Longing.
Now you turn to me with your pain.
You send out your S.O.S.
Pulse code, through your heartbeat.
You mocked me once for being weak.
Funny, how you are now the same as I once was.
Funny, how I do not mock your display of weakness.
You mourn, you search, you grieve.
This separation is only an illusion, yet you believe the lies it tells.
The truth is eternal.
The truth is wholeness.
I am not missing from you:
Look inside and you will find me.
Go within and hold me there.

Dead Man

Hey, ho, dead man, sorry you're not around.
Been feeling your thoughts in my head,
Know you're missing that sound.

Hey, ho, dead man, it's sure been a long time.
Been seeing your visions through my eyes,
Know you're living in these rhymes.

Hey, ho, dead man, how come ya never call?
Been thinking your words in my mind,
No, you're never gone at all.

Hey, ho, dead man, I saw you walking down the line.
Been following your steps with cold feet,
Know I'll meet with you in time.

So saddle up that dark horse and ride across the flames,
No excuse for wasting the dawn, take a chance, welcome the pain.
You've been burned worse before by your own hand,
So, tell me now, what's there to lose for a dead man?

Hey, ho, dead man, I was wrong about the map,
Been remembering letters on the key,
Know your own ego was the trap.

Hey, ho, dead man, I really wish that you were here.
Been missing the way that we were,
Know you'll never reappear.

Hey, ho, dead man, could you take me for a ride?
Been hearing our song in my head,
Know you never really died.
No, you never really died.
I know, you never really died.

Ode to the Journeyman

Long before dawn has broken the night,
And the sun has chased off the chills,
The Journeyman readies himself for his flight,
Over rivers and valleys and hills.

The Ford is his stallion, the map is his guide,
He's not short on places to be.
A foreman's no better than the men at his side,
"Go hard or go home!" is his decree.

Harness and lanyard, wire and reel,
His gear and devices are plenty.
Spud bar and klines, iron and steel,
With tools on, he always is ready.

Up walls, on columns, along a bridge deck,
He ties all the pieces together.
In frigid cold, humid heat, whatever the heck,
He works hard, no matter the weather.

It takes a strong man to hold down this job,
His paycheck is honestly earned.
Blood, sweat, and grit are the way of the rod;
He embodies the skills he has learned.

Ode to My Daughter

Her eyes well with wonder;
She looks up to the stars.
Her voice is like thunder.
She is beautiful, bizarre.

Her hair is like corn silk.
She's wild and free.
Her skin is like fresh milk.
She stings like a bee.

Her smile is magic.
She's seldom seen sad.
Her anger is tragic;
She's tough when she's mad.

Her compassion astounds me.
She forgives and forgets.
Her kindness is lasting;
She gives what she gets.

Her love is a gift;
She laughs, it's a treasure.
Her life is a wish.
She lives for this pleasure.

Dear Daughter, always growing.
Today you are turning five!
To my heart, you are showing,
The joys of being alive.

Peripheral Eternity

What can be said?
How do all of the words in my lexicon sound together at once?
There are no words.
There aren't enough words.
There are too many words.
Nothing expresses everything except the void; you are the void to me.
You are every thing.
You are no thing.
There are too many words and things between us.
Far too much logic, too much space, too much science.
I don't want to know you analytically, but biblically, spiritually---how the stars know the Maker that we foolishly search for with numbers.
I want to know the Truth beyond language.
I want to know the inner light that projects you into this garden of dreams.

A Yen for Sweet Solitude

The blueberries balance the tea bean buzz,
I'm driven by chances, I'm driven by was.
Compelled to sit silently just before midnight,
Searching for something not found in the daylight.

Coffee and pancakes, a simplified yen,
I sip at my mud and forget about when,
I found strength in failure and knew no success,
I came out with more when I needed less.

I go out walkin' searching for truth,
In the late night hours, after I've fallen through,
The hole in my heart when I've hit the floor,
I hunger for solitude and the sweetness of yore.

Up To Date: 11 Days of Marchin'

What's 'Been Doing?
(Marchin' a Nutshell)

I've been roaming here and there;
my mind's been mostly everywhere.

I've been stuffed up and home remedy battling,
my tonsils and sinus cavities are rattling.

My throat is dry, my lips are cracked.
Not even an opposite I'd attract.

I play, I read, I sing, I write.
I stay up and down through the night.

I sigh, I sit, I think, I guess.
The days are mostly more or less.

I merge the forms, try to compose.
A song is born from line of prose.

Keys to strings to pen and back,
The days go on, I can't keep track.

"What is hidden in that shadow?"

What is hidden in that shadow,
Behind the overcoat of darkness?
What is shadowed by the hidden,
In its mystery and starkness?

Who is shirking in the shadow,
drawing back from golden light?
Who is lurking at the window
watching the sun shine at night?

Death is waiting for my brothers
to play the long forgotten tune.
Life is waiting for the Others
to face the dark side of the moon.

What is hidden in that shadow
that I can't see with my eyes?
What is unseen in ugliness
and lost in beautiful lies?

What is hidden in that shadow
under the thoughts and forms of pain?
What is wrong with letting go
of your umbrella in the rain?

What is hidden in that shadow
beyond the glow of your city lights?
Who is waiting on the horizon
to take you where you set your sights?

Ode to Romance

Kiss me, per chance to dream,
We follow primal callings.
He's held captive by her words;
She is scared, only of falling.

Charming, gentle fellows never
rush on to the end.
He'll journey slowly toward his heart,
Finding pieces in friends.

Fantasy and fancy are what
gets her through the day,
Actions speak much louder than any
words that she could say.

"It's the thought that counts" is something
that is often said by fools.
But when they fall in love,
they almost always forget the rules.

If thoughts are just a choice
and what's willed, then, is the feeling,
All that we may be is this romance
with which we're dealing.

"What your mirror thinks of you..."

Sometimes I see you smile when you look into my eyes.
Sometimes I see you shaken when they're drowning from your cries.

Sometimes I see you stare at nothing---and nothing stares you back.
Sometimes I see the emptiness and shame from what you lack.

I can not give to you what you do not give to me,
And what you are is only what you look at me and see.

When we're alone, I see you thinking, dazed and solemnly,
I command attention, but you hate to look at me.

We are the same, you and I; your only freedom is to break me.
To you I'm bound and tied; I'm your reflection, you'll never shake me.

#1 Sonnet

I peer into the vacuum of our soul,
Inside your eyes I find a noble truth.
Wholeness becomes our first and only goal;
A fairytale discovered in our youth.

As children we began to play at love;
We never learned which rules were meant to break.
 I was the olive branch, and you the dove.
We always knew how much there was at stake.

Together we could write the song we hear;
Alone we will be pulled into the dark.
Aside from you, I have nothing to fear,
But you have never failed to miss your mark.

I've waited long for you to set me free;
The only freedom I need is from me.

Ode to Christmas

Early morning risers with eyes full of joy,
Wake from their restless slumber with a yawn.
Anticipating that long awaited toy;
They want their presents at the crack of dawn.

Again the family gathers, for it's that time of year,
From far away they return to their homes.
We feast and laugh, exchanging Christmas cheer,
Reminding each other we're not alone.

Giving or getting, there's no time like the present.
Inside our hearts we find the greatest gift.
Tradition reminds us when memories lay dormant,
And bind us tightly, as through time we drift.

Cunnilingus Sonnet

Between my legs he finds himself at home,
I run my fingers through his golden locks.
For, in these thoughts I know I'm not alone.
He knocks me out of my white cotton socks.

His velvet tongue against my open door;
No need to knock so I just show him in.
His mouth is hot and I'm aching for more.
The space between our lips is paper thin.

A roller coaster ride, I'm at the top;
Rhythmic Kashmir waves urge me ahead.
It's harvest time and I'm the only crop.
I reap what he has sewn inside my bed.

As energies increase, I hold my breath,
For this is what they call "the little death".

Heroic Couplets in Iambic Pentameter

I feel you in the night when I'm alone.
To me, your heart will always be my home.

Into the skies of your mind I will soar.
The fire of your thoughts I will restore.

The graves of our twin souls remain upturned;
There's no forgetting the truth that we learned.

There is no drying tears that we must cry;
There is no "hello" without a "goodbye".

I'll choke on your name until I can't breathe.
And after I'm dead I'll still never leave.

There is a place inside me where you live,
And you will take from me all I will give.

Ode to the Lost

Silenced before your mother could meet you;
Forever lost in her chest.
Taken before this cruel world could greet you;
Gruesomely snatched from her breast.

Eternally innocent, suspended in time;
An ending from the beginning.
Your words are lost in reality's rhyme;
Your light is constantly dimming.

Your spirit whispers into deaf ears;
You linger in mem'ries and thoughts.
The thread of your life still weaves through the years;
Continually hidden, perpetually sought.

Tannenbaum Sonnet

Evergreen, how long will she be standing?
I sit here staring, basking in her light.
Within her limbs survives understanding.
Somehow she brings the day into the night.

She holds a song written before her birth;
Inside her voice is housed a solemn tune.
You'd never break her value or self worth.
She'll take your breath away under the moon.

Adorned with silver 'cicles and a star,
Her earrings sparkle as bright as her crown.
Her ornaments highlight her hidden charms;
The gifts below her skirt can break you down.

Mother Nature gives a lovely show.
Her needles stick you when you hold her, though.
